Chromosome 3p allele loss is frequent in ovarian and testicular tumours. The von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) disease tumour suppressor gene maps to chromosome 3p25. Gonadal tumours may occur in patients with VHL disease, so somatic VHL gene mutations might be involved in the pathogenesis of sporadic gonadal tumours.
