The membrane glycoprotein (gp55) encoded by the env gene of Friend spleen focus-forming virus (SFFV) causes mitogenesis of infected erythroblasts and is inefficiently (3-5%) processed from the rough endoplasmic reticulum (RER) to plasma membranes.
