The MICA gene encodes a glycoprotein upregulated upon cellular stress, particularly in oxidative stress, intracellular infections, and tumorigenesis. This stress-signaling molecule interacts with the activating receptor NKG2D from Natural Killer (NK) and some T lymphocytes, stimulating their cytotoxic activity.
