BACKGROUND: Parkinson's disease (PD) and schizophrenia (SCZ) are heritable brain disorders that involve dysregulation of the dopaminergic system. Epidemiological studies have reported potential comorbidity between the disorders, and movement disturbances are common in patients with SCZ before treatment with antipsychotic drugs.
