During homologous recombination, cells must coordinate repair, DNA damage checkpoint signaling, and movement of chromosomal loci to facilitate homology search. In Saccharomyces cerevisiae, increased movement of damaged loci (local mobility) and undamaged loci (global mobility) precedes homolog pairing in mitotic cells.
