The error-prone V(D)J recombination process generates considerable amounts of nonproductive immunoglobulin (Ig) pre-mRNAs. We recently demonstrated that aberrant Ig chains lacking variable (V) domains can be produced after nonsense-associated altered splicing (NAS) events.
