Hybrid dysgenesis is a sterility syndrome resulting from the mobilization of certain transposable elements in the Drosophila germline. Particularly extreme is the hybrid dysgenesis syndrome caused by P-element DNA transposons, in which dysgenic female ovaries often contain few or no germline cells.
