Acquired thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura is a rare and severe disease characterized by auto-antibodies directed against "A Disintegrin And Metalloproteinase with Thrombospondin type 1 repeats, 13th member" (ADAMTS13), a plasma protein involved in hemostasis.
