Bacterial voltage-gated sodium channels (BacNavs) serve as models of their vertebrate counterparts. BacNavs contain conserved voltage-sensing and pore-forming domains, but they are homotetramers of four identical subunits, rather than pseudotetramers of four homologous domains.
