BACKGROUND: Mannose-binding lectin (MBL) plays an important role in innate immunity. The aim of this study was to determine whether genetic variants of MBL confer susceptibility to Pneumocystis pneumonia (PCP) in patients with advanced human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infections.
