BACKGROUND: Activating epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) gene mutations can be successfully treated by EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKIs), but nearly 50% of all patients' exhibit progression of the disease until treatment because of T790M mutations.
