BACKGROUND: Organic anion-transporting polypeptides (OATPs) encoded by SLCO mediate the cellular uptake of many compounds, including androgens. SLCO1B3 and SLCO2B1 are polymorphic, and single-nucleotide polymorphisms of those genes alter androgen transport efficiency.
