Depressive disorder is a disease characterized by disturbances in the hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal axis. Abnormalities include the increased level of glucocorticoids (GC) and changes in sensitivity to these hormones. The changes are related to glucocorticoid receptors gene (NR3C1) variants.
