We have selected and characterized Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells resistant to auromomycin (AUR), an antitumor antibiotic composed of a protein moiety and a nonpeptide chromophore. AUR is cytotoxic as a consequence of DNA strand-scission activity associated with the chromophore.
