BACKGROUND: Natural mutant staggerer (sg) mice harbor a mutated retinoic acid receptor-related orphan receptor alpha (RORalpha). A genetic deletion corresponding to the ligand-binding domain (LBD) of RORalpha results in aberrant cerebellar development in the sg mice.
