Leptin treatment ameliorates lipoatrophic diabetes in animal models and humans. Transgenic mice overexpressing leptin (LepTg) are lipoatrophic but not diabetic and thus represent a model for elucidating mechanisms of leptin-mediated glucose homeostasis.
