1alpha,25-dihydroxyvitamin D(3) upregulates tumour necrosis factor superfamily member 11 (TNFSF11) that codes for the receptor activator of nuclear factor kappaB ligand (RANKL), and downregulates osteoprotegerin (OPG) expression.
