BACKGROUND: NOD2/CARD15 is a member of the NACHT-LRR (NLR) family of proteins, which recognize the muramyl dipeptide motif from bacterial peptidoglycans. NOD2 has been shown to be involved in the pathogenesis of Crohn's disease.
