Substitution of glycine for arginine at position 127 of the mature human interleukin 1 beta protein generates a mutant IL-1 beta protein (IL-1 beta R----G) which binds cellular IL-1 receptors with high affinity but fails to elicit significant proliferation of T-helper cells (Gehrke, L., Jobling, S.
