Ubiquitination of the EGF receptor (EGFR) has been implicated in EGF-induced receptor internalization, lysosomal degradation, and down-regulation. Mutation of EGFR ubiquitination sites identified by mass spectrometry yielded receptor mutants that are weakly ubiquitinated and not down-regulated by EGF.
