In vivo-activated interleukin-2 responsive T cell clones were generated from peripheral blood (PBL) of multiple sclerosis patients (MS) and normal subjects (N) by limiting dilution analysis. The frequency with which interleukin-2 responsive cells were cloned from PBL was higher in MS than N. CD8 was the predominant phenotype expressed by both MS (85%) and N (89%) clones.
