BACKGROUND: Two main genes encoding the catalytic subunits Calpha and Cbeta of cyclic AMP dependent protein kinase (PKA) have been identified in all vertebrates examined. The murine, bovine and human Cbeta genes encode several splice variants, including the splice variant Cbeta2.
