Polymorphisms in NFKBIA may be important in pre-disposition to and outcome after treatment, of multiple myeloma (MM). The NFKBIA gene product, IkappaBalpha, binds to NF-kappaB preventing its activation and is important in mediating resistance to apoptosis in B-cell lymphoproliferative diseases.
