Aurora B kinase, a subunit of the chromosomal passenger protein complex, plays essential roles in spindle assembly, chromosome bi-orientation, and cytokinesis. The kinase activity of Aurora B, which peaks in mitosis, is tightly controlled in the cell cycle.
