The cpk mouse is the most extensively characterized model of autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease (ARPKD). The major ARPKD-related renal and biliary phenotypes are modulated in F2 mutants by genetic background, suggesting that quantitative trait loci (QTL) modulate disease severity.
