In response to DNA damage the related phosphatidylinositol-3-OH-kinase-like-kinases ATM and ATR phosphorylate downstream protein targets which facilitate the DNA damage response. A new pathway in which ATM phosphorylates the transcriptional co-factor Strap has been elucidated.
