In previous studies, thermodynamic dissection of the dimerization interface in CA-C, the C-terminal domain of the capsid protein of human immunodeficiency virus type 1, revealed that individual mutation to alanine of Ser178, Glu180, Glu187 or Gln192 led to significant increases in dimerization affinity.
