Established mutagenesis assays measure mutant frequencies at selectable loci. These assays work by encouraging the growth of mutants to form visible colonies while suppressing the growth of non-mutants. An alternative strategy is to detect DNA alterations directly. We present an example of this latter strategy using TaqMan to quantify deletion mutants in mixed cultures of Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain RS112....
