BACKGROUND: Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) is a regulatory enzyme of homocysteine metabolism. The C677T polymorphism of the MTHFR gene has been reported to be associated with elevated plasma homocysteine in patients with low folic acid intake.
