Proteolysis triggered by the anaphase-promoting complex/cyclosome (APC/C) is essential for the progression through mitosis. APC/C is a highly conserved ubiquitin ligase whose activity is regulated during the cell cycle by various factors, including spindle checkpoint components and protein kinases.
