Rapid detection of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) has potential applications in both genetic screening and pharmacogenomics. Planar waveguide fluorescent biosensor technology was employed to detect SNPs using a simple hybridization assay with the complementary strand ("capture oligo") immobilized on the waveguide.
