The stearoyl-CoA desaturase 1 (Scd1) gene is involved in the synthesis and regulation of unsaturated fatty acids. Its expression is increased by several treatments/conditions that are associated with hepatocarcinogenesis (peroxisome proliferators, iron overload, dichloroacetic acid).
