BACKGROUND/AIMS: Susceptibility to autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) has been linked to different HLA-DR antigens. Recently, AIH type 1 was associated with polymorphisms in the tumor necrosis factor alpha gene promoter (TNFA) at position -308.
