Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a genetic heart disease characterized by left ventricular hypertrophy. Mutations in genes for sarcomere proteins, e.g. in cardiac myosin-binding protein C (cMyBPC), cause symptoms like heart failure and sudden cardiac death.
