<h4>Summary</h4> Alveolar type II (AT2) progenitor cell exhaustion and impaired regenerative capacity are key pathogenic hallmarks in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD + ) functions as a central regulator of cellular energy metabolism.
