Lav is an autotransporter protein found in pathogenic Haemophilus and Neisseria species. Lav in non-typeable Haemophilus influenzae (NTHi) is phase-variable: the gene reversibly switches ON-OFF via changes in length of a locus-located GCAA (n) simple DNA sequence repeat tract.
