<h4>ABSTRACT</h4> Protein arginine deiminases (PADs) convert arginine to citrulline, altering protein structure and function. Of the five human isozymes, PAD1–4 are catalytically active with distinct tissue-specificities, yet isozyme-specific substrate recognition remains poorly defined.
