Previous studies have demonstrated that the product of the Interferon stimulated gene Ch25h , 25-Hydroxycholestrol, provides an immediate and rapid mechanism for down-regulating sterol biosynthesis, through the inhibition of Hmgcr gene expression and proteolytic degradation of HMGCR protein.
