Abstract Deposits of amyloid fibrils of α-synuclein are the histological hallmarks of Parkinson’s disease, multiple system atrophy, and dementia with Lewy bodies. Although most cases of these diseases are sporadic, autosomal-dominant hereditary mutations have been linked to Parkinson’s disease and dementia with Lewy bodies.
