Secretin was originally discovered as a gastrointestinal peptide that stimulates fluid secretion from pancreas and liver and delays gastric emptying. In disease, secretin receptor (SCTR) was found to occur as a splice variant in gastrinoma and pancreatic adenocarcinoma.
