<h4>Summary</h4> The exon junction complex (EJC), nucleated by EIF4A3, is indispensable for mRNA fate and function throughout eukaryotes. Unexpectedly, we discover that EIF4A3 directly controls microtubules independent of RNA, and this is critical for neural wiring.
