A human lung cancer cell line (A549) mutant with hypoxanthine guanine phosphoribosyltransferase (HGPRT) deficiency and resistance to 8-AG was established by treatment of the A549 cells with 3 micrograms.ml-1 N-methyl-N'-nitro-nitrosoguanidine (MNNG), and prescreened in 0.25% agarose DMEM semisolid medium containing 20 micrograms.ml-1 8-AG.
