MRL/MP-lpr/lpr (MRL/lpr) mice have a single mutation (lpr) of the fas apoptosis gene. The mutant mice developed significantly smaller lesions than the wild-type mice at the earlier stage of infection with the intracellular protozoan parasite Leishmania major.
