All nucleated cells make phosphatidylcholine via the CDP-choline pathway. Liver has an alternative pathway in which phosphatidylcholine is made by methylation of phosphatidylethanolamine catalyzed by phosphatidylethanolamine N-methyltransferase (PEMT).
