Insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) is assumed to be a T cell-mediated autoimmune disease. To investigate the role of Fas-mediated cytotoxicity in pancreatic beta cell destruction, we established nonobese diabetic (NOD)-lymphoproliferation (lpr)/lpr mice lacking Fas.
