Sulphamethoxazole, a substrate of human arylamine N-acetyltransferase, is used in the treatment of cystic fibrosis patients, who metabolise the drug rapidly. Increased metabolic clearance of sulphamethoxazole has been suggested to account for this rapid metabolism.
