The expression of arylamine N-acetyltransferase (NAT) in leukocytes was investigated using p-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) and sulfamethazine (SMZ), substrates which are preferentially acetylated by the monomorphic NAT1 and polymorphic NAT2 enzymes, respectively.
