Multiple loss of heterozygosity (LOH) studies of ovarian cancers have found a high incidence of chromosome 17 loss in these tumors. Several authors have suggested that the region commonly deleted encompasses 17q12-21. In addition, this region has recently been reported to be linked to the familial breast/ovarian cancer syndrome.
