To investigate glial carcinogenesis in vitro, fetal rat brain cells were cultured and exposed to ENU (approximately 200 micrograms/ml). The cells were passaged weekly thereafter. Morphological changes were observed under the phase contrast microscope. When mutant colonies where the cells lost contact inhibition and grew in a multilayer fashion appeared, the cells were cloned.
