Primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC) is characterized by lymphoid infiltrates in the portal tracts of the liver and the occurrence of antimitochondrial autoantibodies in serum directed against components of the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex and the other alpha-keto acid dehydrogenase complexes.
